In fall 2008, when she was 2 years old, Jakayla developed the symptoms of a cold. Then, she stopped eating. Her mother took her to the doctor, who did blood work. The results of the tests were troubling, and the doctor referred the family to St. Jude.
At St. Jude, they received the news that Jakayla suffered from acute lymphoblastic leukemia, the most common form of childhood cancer. Jakayla began receiving intense chemotherapy right away. Jakayla is still in treatment, but happily, her cancer is in remission.
Jakayla is an active little girl who loves singing, dancing, and playing with her big brother.
