medulloblastoma
In May 2010, 3-year-old JaLise started to throw up after eating and she began to lose weight. Her doctor thought it was acid reflux and prescribed medicine, which seemed to help. When JaLise fainted one afternoon, her mom, LaShandra, feared something more was at work and took her to the emergency room. There, tests revealed the little girl suffered from medulloblastoma, a type of brain tumor. Within days, JaLise underwent surgery and doctors were able to do a total resection of the tumor.
While JaLise recovered from surgery, LaShandra began to consider options for her continuing care. She was familiar with St. Jude, and soon obtained a referral for JaLise. At St. Jude, JaLise’s treatment included six weeks of radiation and four rounds of chemotherapy. LaShandra is appreciative of the support and care JaLise received at St. Jude. “From the moment we walked through the door, I was amazed,” she said. “The staff is amazing. JaLise’s doctors and nurses are so caring.” JaLise is a budding fashionista and can often be found in bedazzled boots and a Hello Kitty hat. She likes princesses and baby dolls.
